A large integrated site generated off-gas that was used as feedstock in another plant process. However, the production of the off-gas and the demand for it as feedstock were not synchronized and this created significant amounts of excess off-gas without an end user. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to economically store or burn the off-gas, so production had to be curtailed at one plant to meet the demand at the other. 5DN professionals used the SIO approach to identify a gas turbine cogeneration unit at the site that could burn the off-gas and make steam and electricity. The equipment manufacturer approved the idea and now the solution provides the client with additional operating flexibility and saves over $10 million per year in operating costs.
